Only In Mexico...
I know I know....Enough about Mexico. Don't you fret pictures of Emily (my beautiful niece) and I will follow shortly I just need to do one last post about Mexico before leaving that amazing month behind me. The following is a list appropriately titled "Only in Mexico" which was put together by Meghan and I on the plane home. Please put this phrase at the beginning of each sentence and do note that when we say "Only in Mexico" we mean Only but not Limited to Mexico.
1. ...Do you have to press a button shortly after passing immigration to find out if you pass. If it lights up green you may proceed....Red....I am not sure but so far we are both 2 for 2.
2. ...Do they use a megaphone instead of an intercom at the airport (when telling passengers to board).
3. ...Can you travel as far as you want (in the city) by train or bus for 4 pesos (.40 cents).
4. ...Can you take a 40 minute taxi ride to a waterfall for 20 pesos ($2.00).
5. ...Can you buy unreleased DVD's for 20 pesos (aka. Pirates of the Caribbean 2).
6. ...Can you buy Old Navy sandals for 200 pesos ($20.oo for the kind we get for $2.50)
7. ...Can you buy a large container of fresh fruit (papaya, watermelon, cactus, mango, pineapple ect..) for 11 pesos ($1.10).
8. ...Can you fit 70 people in a 40 passenger bus or 3 people on a 1-person motorcycle.
9. ...Can you make 4 lanes out of 2.
10. ...Do they have multiple speed bumps to slow down the cars but no posted speed limits. (by the way I think the goal of every taxi is to see how fast they can drive in between bumps and then come to an almost complete stop before gently bypassing the bump).
11. ...Do red lights and stop signs only apply during the day.
12. ...Do you NOT need an alarm clock....You will be awaken by the Z gas song ("zeta, zeta, zeta gas!) the water man yelling out something about water, screaming children, 3 legged dogs, the ice cream man yelling something about ice cream or "a diez...A diez," or finally the airplane with a megaphone yelling something about scenic flying trips (we do love when it rains because he does not fly).
13. ...Do you live across or a few houses down from at least 2 7-11 type stores no matter where you live...They are everywhere. (they are small store that are made out of a living room in someone's house)
14. ...Can you buy groceries on a charter bus. (when it stops 5 or 6 people will get on until the next stop selling chips, candy, ice cream, ect...).
15. ...Can you get a horse for 30 pesos when there are no taxi's for the 3 mile drive home. ($3.00)
16. ...Is McDonald's more expensive than a sit down restaurant equivalent to Chevy's.
17. ...Is it cheaper to buy a Corona then a soda (7 pesos).
18. ...Can you get a hotel (3 star) for 150 pesos per person when there are four of you ($15...By the way you get what you pay for).
19. ...Can you walk down the street at 11pm and buy hot dogs, hamburgers, tacos, burritos, sandwiches, ice cream, or fruit.
20. ...Is it cheaper to go to the movies ($2.50) then to buy the snacks (popcorn = $5.00) and cheaper to buy a pirated new release then rent from blockbuster.
21. ...Can you bowl for 2-3 hours and pay $5.00 with shoes included.
22. ...Is there a cop with a machine gun posted at every bank and jewelry store.
23. ...Do the police have to have their lights on before attempting to pull someone over. Apparently it is unfair to sneak up on someone (basically they just drive with them on at all times).
