Latest Gifts From The Maintenance Men

Today Ed brought over 2 loaves of Sweet Potato Bread, a large bags of greens (I'm not sure what that means but the picture looks like spinach), an enormous bag of peas, 2 bags of "fresh" blueberries packed in ice, the large tub of butter that is filled with some type of shredded meat (I think pork) and the 3 sauces - BBQ, some kind of vinegar and I forget the 3rd.

New Job

For Christy.....

I made pico....chopped it all up veggie by veggie. It was beautiful and quite tasty. Then...all of a sudden the burning started. Then a rash. Then my fingers were swollen like little sassauges. Well, I started asking all the realatives what to do...figuring someone must know. Everyone had an idea and none of them worked. I tried milk, vinegar, baking soda, cold water, ice, and finally we ask my grandma (who was unaware of the situation at hand) and she goes "wear gloves." I was like thanks....I will do that.....next time. hahaha.

Possible Job!

About 2-3 weeks ago my friend Alisa called me up and asked if I wanted to go to ignite (the singles group at this church I go to sometimes). Turns out as we got there late I sat next to a lady who just so happened to be a Christian counselor. After a few minutes of talking I gave her my email and she promised to send me some websites. After some research I found that there was a job I was qualified for at House of Hope. The next week I turned in my application and last Tuesday I endured an hour and a half interview. Today I got a call saying that everything looked good and they really hoped they would have good news for me next week. They just needed to check my references. Next, I got phone calls from two of my references! Sounds like things went well so hopefully I will be starting a new job very soon.
The job: I would be a house staff member. Sorta like a mom to 8 or so girls ages 12-17. House of Hope is a place where troubled and hurting girls can stay and recieve a Christian education and Christian counseling. Ill know more about the job as I start to do it but sounds like I would get to take them places like the movies, a hike or of course church. Oh and I would be working 2 nights a week (2:30pm-9am) and every other weekend (Friday 230pm-Monday afternoon). I would also lead a Bible study and cook with them every so often. I am hoping to stay with Starbucks for at least a little while but I haven't discussed those details with my manager yet.

Cooking

So I went grocery shopping today and for the first time in weeks I was actually able to buy fresh produce. I forgot to mention before when I was talking about the snow and cold weather that here in North Carolina....it tends to be a little like Y2K. I say this because that's the only other time I've seen a grocery store cleaned out like this. I am talking NO produce, No milk, No eggs, NO bottled water, ect.

Thank goodness the sun has been out for a few days in a row now and I was able to get all the ingredients to make some wonderful pico. Don't worry! for those of you who were there during that after Christmas experience with the Jalapenos I did remember the advice grandma gave me....wear gloves. Since we didn't have those I just used sandwich bags. Kinda difficult but they do the trick.

Superbowl

I would just like to point out that of all the cool and fun places you could go during the Superbowl....Starbucks is apparently not one of the. I was the lucky winner of closing last night. Thank goodness we close at 8:30pm on Sundays because from about 6pm-8:30pm we had 4 customers and to make it worse they all came during half time!

Round 2

And this time it didn't melt until around 12pm. Well some of it is still around since temps stayed around 34 today. The best part about snow in North Carolina is that it is treated like rain in LA. Everyone freaks down, people leave work early or don't go at all and EVERYONE is talking about it and what will happen in the next hours/days.
